Hi again,

For my next brew I had the idea of Keging it in a king keg :hmm: , (yet to be purchased). Im not a big fan of using kegs prefering to bottle. So I want to brew the maximum length that will fit in one allowing for the least headspace I can get away with or maybe a larger length & bottling the remainder  ,I want to get the brew going first befor I buy one, So how much will a king keg hold? & how much headspace should I leave?

I used to manage to fit 23L in one with adequet headspace

the main tip as I understand it is to go with the S30 system so you can control how much CO2 to put in, and when you first keg the beer, make sure you put in CO2 to remove the air in the headspace :thumb:

If your starting from scratch it really should be worth considering a corny instead of a KK.
They are both about the same price, although the corny only holds approx 19 litres it is much better than a king keg that still has a rather large headspace after filling with 23 litres. I had a couple & sold them on Eb*y to help finance the cornies. :thumb:
Good luck whatever way you go

I have often thought of a corny & I know they are superior to a KK :thumb: , what puts me off is the small qty they hold at only 19 lts. I usually brew at least 23 lts so with 1 corny I would have only 4 lts to bottle, not worth the effort I think! With my next brew I was looking at a 50 ltr batch, which means I would need at least 2 cornys. Straight away at least doubling the price of a KK. @ 38 lts leaving 12 lts to bottle which is ok, but my plan was to squeeze as much into the KK as possible maybe 26 - 27 lts leaving the usual 23 lts for bottling. but Im not sure how much I can squeeze in safely.

Corny might cost the same as a King Keg, but all the rest of the gear you need to make the Corny work does not!!

i have to say that I'm lucky, I use the midget widget gas & there is not as much outlay for that
