One aspect about my brewery has been worrying me since it's conception. I have been really concerned about the back nuts that come with kettle elements, in particular, the fact they are made of plastic. I'm not the most careful of people when washing my copper, or moving my HLT and the shrouds often get bashed. My worries were also compounded when I first made the HLT and copper, as one of the back nuts/shrouds kept popping off overnight, luckily this was before they'd seen a brew. The cause was a small crack in the plastic....but it got me thinking :hmm:
This is a example of the standard back nut/shroud as supplied with the element.

I contacted another forum member called Bru4U, as he had kindly offered to machine items for homebrewers in one of his posts. I sent a kettle element over to him and asked if he could make the back nut/shroud from stainless, and these are the results.

This is the new back nut/shroud that Bru4U made for me.

These stainless back nuts/shrouds also fit standard elements as supplied from the Hop & Grape.

For me, these look the dogs danglies. They have given me total confidence in my kit and AFAIC they are great value for money based on the effort Bru4U must have put in.....

and did I forget to metion that above all........they are oh soooo shiny

Bru4u has offered to make these for homebrewers for 15 euro each + P+P, for anyone who's interested

I am eternally grateful to Bru4u and happy to vouch for the quality of the product ;)

These shrouds won't make the lead to element connection IP56 rated (ie, water proof), but if I spill that much liquid on them, I really shouldn't be brewing

Bru4u is not currently registered with this forum so please contact me for details.

They are awesome! I've got to get me some of those. My elements are currently shroudless

It's top of my 'to do' list but I've not managed to fabricate anything decent enough as of yet. The other problem is that a couple of my elements are from cheap kettles so don't have a thread for a backnut. They attach via three small screws that connect the plug connector to the element.
