I'm about to slip my Nelsons Revenge into a cheapy keg, i'm going to use medium spray malt to condition it, i have 500g, will this be enough!??
Its a 36 pint kit.

Also can i use vaseline to seal the tap ring as well as the lid, will it contaminate the brew?? I had a bit of a drip from the tap thread unless i really cranked it up last time - i dont want to bugger up the thread!

Too much! 80-90g for the whole 36 pints should be about the most you'd need :thumb: Or you can just use sugar to save opening the pack - with such a small amount the flavour won't be compromise.

I wouldn't use vaseline where it would be under the level of the beer as it may cause off flavours. Maybe PTFE tape would work :hmm:

I used vaseline on my tap, absolutely no dramas whatsoever with contamiunation/taste etc- just dont go overboard smearing it on Winton stylee

 CS

Thanks guys, i'm sure i've used 500gm for priming before?? maybe not, i've definatly got half a bag for some reason, anyway normal sugar it is, reading the kit box it says half tsp per pint, which if i'm right in thinking 1tsp=5gm is 18tsp or 90gms, why did i think it was 500!!!?!? ;)

You may have used 500g of spray malt in the brew instead of sugar :D

No, it was a two can no sugar kit, a porter, i'm sure it was 500gms....hang on... the bag is only 500gms, and theres not much gone, in fact theres 418gms left, i'm either deluded or incredibly forgetfull!!!

ANYWAY-

I have just racked into a keg, it didnt taste like i expected in fact it tasted a bit like watery beer, very weak, the SG was 1.008, i didnt take the OG

It looked fine, just didnt taste very strong. The yeast bed was a very strange green colour and smelt very very hoppy, almost good enough to eat!!!?

Crikey I feel sea sick  I've never seen anything like that before.
If you over prime that can cause your tap to leak because of excessive pressure. Vaseline is fine but don't overdue it on the lid seal especially with the budget kegs which have the large white seal. :thumb:

This has just gone from bad to worse...

got up this morning to find the keg lid hs been blown in half!!! should the little rubber valve on top not let out excess pressure if its too much,do i need to complain to youngs again!!?

on top of that i had another little taster, it was like gone off milk, this ones going down to experience, my first failure

My cleaning was second to none, i did notice thet the hot 'wort' didnt mix particularly well with the cold water, then fermentation didnt start for over a day, by which time i had to stir again because it had 'seperated' it probably was my fault but i'l give this kit a miss from now on. :hmm:

Thats really strange I would have thought the pressure relief valve would have kicked in no probs - is it blocked somehow?

I find that sometimes the bands on mine dont seem strong enough.

It had definitely finished primary at 1.008 yeah?
