All the bits have turned up for my Kegerator build, got a few questions before I get brave with the drill, I plan on installing the taps to the left side of the fridge, am I going to hit any pipes or just insulation like I'm guessing?

Also do I need ptfe tape for joining the JG fittings onto the quick disconnects

Any other tips feel free to tip in

HI, I read somewhere that whilst the fridge is on and at fridge temp spray water inside and the elements that chill the fridge will freeze the water so you can see where they are, also said that most modern fridges they are at the rear.

I put my taps on the door so that was a safe bet. Anywhere else, follow banbeer's advice. Re. PTFE tape, I wrapped it around anything in the set up that had a thread on it (just to be safe!)

I remember reading somthing similar but totally forgot about it, will give it a go now, thanks for your reply

Thanks Chuffer, I was going to put mine in the door but thought the opening of the door may stress connections and the situation my fridge is in the side would be better but bottling it now its coming to drill time, so will try the water spray on the inside first and break out the PTFE tape
Cheers

I haven't put PTFE on my JG to disconnect fittings. They don't leak. There's an O ring in there so you shouldn't need it. PTFE is only required for threaded joints without any other form of sealing for example radiator tails on central heating. Anything with an olive, O ring or sealing washer shouldn't need it and in fact can cause problems as it will make it harder to tighten up and in extreme cases (if you put too many wraps on) crack plastic fittings.

Just do it all up tight but not overly so, pressurise it, and spray over a soapy water solution (washing up liquid or StarSan) to check for leaks. If it bubbles there's a leak. The JG stuff is pretty foolproof though in my experience.

Thanks Graz makes sense will give it a good test once ready

I think you can easily push a small screwdriver through the side of the fridge, (they are surprisingly wafer thin). You should feel if you hit a cooling pipe without puncturing it.

Bit the bullet and just went for it, drilled a small pilot hole then used 22mm wood bit that was spot on, just got to see if I can get the gas line in via the drain hole, if that's a none starter will drill a hole for it as I want the CO2 bottle outside the fridge, more room for beer then😁😁😁
