I expect it will foam but when I said depressurise i was meaning to let it de carbonate as much as possible. Might be better to cut down the dip tube.
Taking the poppet out sounds like a future disaster in the making to me.
 
Can you tie a small mesh bag over the end of the dip tube (like you get in the Festival kits) or would that make things worse?

I have given this a go and we seem to have some early signs of success.

It will be interesting to see how long it lasts for

I initially thought the same, but then thought that you must do that to refurb the posts / replace o rings etc

But when I tried I couldn’t get it out, so I tried the alternative and that seems to have done the trick!
 
What about giving it a bit of a shake to remove debris from the end of the dip tube and then storing it back at an angle so that the debris resettles away from the tube?

That's a great idea. That's what I love about this forum. .......even more impressed you thought it up at 5.22am!!!
