Keg to mash tun conversion

Has anyone successfully insulated a keg enough to use as a mash tun or is it considered a big no no?

Couple of issues. Adding the malt/liquor via a 4" cap is a bit small. Same with stirring.
A cheap cool box is easier to use.

4"? I was thinking of grinding the top out?

Still seems like a lot of work, unless there is something wrong with the keg?
Or are you taking about a pub type ss keg?
If so then some of the US ones have done it.

For them I would check out the US sites as they are more common over there.

Just make sure you have the paperwork for your keg otherwise you wont be able to sell it...

As darcey has said are you the legal owner of it? As they belong to the brewery unless you have recepts for the purchase of it. Kegwatch do monitor this site s well as eBay.

If it is legaly yours you can insulate with hotwater tank insulation or bubble wrap or if you have the money armourflex insulation.

Give www.morrow-brothers.co.uk a ring, they deal in reconditioning old kegs from brewery's they may well have one that needs a re-weld on the spear or something thats not worth the work. Sell all sizes of second hand (and new) kegs. As long as you are near North Manchester you can pop in and collect.
