Hi all,
We have just started producing our own lager homebrew using geordie kit.

We have also been using a 5 gallon pressure barrel for this, but we can't keep the lager fizzy. We have to use one CO2 gas bombs to add fizz and we have to add one for every two pints poured.

Can anyone help us with a way to keep the lager fizzy without having to use so many bombs or help us to see what we are doing wrong?

Thanks
Liz

if you are using 1 for every 2 pints then you must have a leak

pressure it up then use water and a bit of washing up liquid over the joints to see which 1 is leaking out

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but a plastic home brew keg will not hold sufficient pressure to give a commercial level of carbonation :(
To overcome this problem you will need to either bottle your lager or go down the Corny keg route :thumb:

I haven`t got a cornie keg (yet ;) ) but a pint bottle primed with a good teaspoon of sugar and conditioned for six weeks will give you an excellent fizz :thumb:

Hi there Liz, and welcome to the forum.

Agree with TS and Rick.

Being a newbie to making your own, try bottling to start with. When priming your bottles, use around half a teaspoon per bottle. When capped leave it in the warm for a week and then into a cool area for at least four weeks. You really will notice the difference.
