Hi guys.

So I'm on my first attempt at cider. Everything was done as I had been advised, and all equipment sterile.

So it's day 5 of fermentation and noticed this morning a ring of (hard to describe) green/ gray on the top of the liquid, so I scooped it all out and put airlock back.

But now I'm thinking maybe it was mould and not sure to dump it or keep it going.
If it don't come back is it safe to drink or is it better safe than sorry?

Any help would be great ,
I tried google but not much luck in the advise .

Are you sure it wasn't just yeast mate?

I'm second guessing myself a bit now, I should have taken a pic of it to show you. But I'm near sure it had a slight green hue to it.

Keep the faith. If it ferments out to somewhere near your expected FG, then taste it. If it's bad, you'll know straight away, if it tastes ok, it will be ok. Easy :thumb:

Thank you outlaw,
Ill keep an eye on it and if it comes back ill post a pic

I recently made a supermarket apple juice cider and for most of the ferment it had the ugliest blue/green/grey head on it I've ever seen. Finished just fine.

That seems very much as mine was, ill keep it going and hope for the best.

how long has it been on for ? I would expect mould to take at least a few weeks (not that it is that in your case I don't think)

It's 10 days today, I've just had a look there now and it doesn't seem to have come back so I may be lucky.

Still quite an active fermentation going so with a bit of luck it be a good one.
