Craig faraway swears by premium kits and he is god on you tube. Im sure AG is great but seems a lot more hassle and time consuming for the same results as premium kits

Just as All grain brewers have a blind spot with regards to kits and the quality that can be achieved from them, Craig and his fanbois (sorry) have a similar issue/blind spot with all grain and the quality that is achievable with them. Yes it is a big investment in kit and time . . . but you don't see the great craft breweries opening tins of ready hopped extract, adding different sugars, and fermenting at some random temperature to produce their acclaimed beersjohnmcfarlane said:Craig faraway swears by premium kits and he is god on you tube.
All Grain is more hassle, it does consume a lot of time, but I'm afraid that it produces immeasurably superior results to even the premium kits, I still buy kits and I make them with the same attention to detail that I use with my all grain worts . . . and the results, while 'good', do not come up to the standards I would expect from my beers. I am also not restricted to brewing the styles of beer that the kit manufacturers supply . . . and quite frankly the concept that you can produce a 'light' coloured wort and ferment it with an ale yeast at ambient temperatures to produce a 'pilsner' is completely flawed . . . even if you do add a noble hop tea and 'sugar' to give it taste.johnmcfarlane said:Im sure AG is great but seems a lot more hassle and time consuming for the same results as premium kits

Then all I can say is you have been unfortunate in drinking poor AG brews.
