Stupidity set in and I gave my FV a quick clean with a bloody plastic wire brush.

This FV is one I plan to use simple for racking into and batch priming to immediately bottle.

There are a few hairline scratches inside the FV now. Will this be much of an issue as long as it's cleaNed properly before uses?

...then just sterilise the hell out of it each time before you bottle. :thumb:

Seriously, my bottling bucket is a couple of years old now and isn't in the best of nick. But so long as you clean it well and sanitise it properly you'll be fine.

I doubt any lingering bacteria are going to have chance to affect an alcoholic brew whilst bottling anyway. Besides, I used a bucket with plenty of scratches as my primary FV for years with no issues.

You guys are great :thumb:

If you are worried you can steam it over a boiling kettle for 5-10 minutes. The surface of the plastic should get nice and hot even any nooks and crannies enough to kill the bacteria. Then use a sanitiser to be safe. Thats what i do with all my fv's. :thumb:

This is an amazing idea. I will be doing this with all my FVs in future :thumb:

If you are boiling your wort (ag etc) then just put the FV over the top of teh boiler for the last 10 minutes, but keep an eye on it in case of boiling over

fyi i have scratched many a fv with the wrong side of a scrubby sponge, as long as you clean it asap after use and sterilise before use it should be ok,

cant say i have ever had an infection, but if i have a hint of an off taste i will retire the FV to storage/garden or other duties just in case..
