thanks TRXnMe im at work tomorrow, so going make sure im not working them days . iv only worked 3 shifts so far this month and got 3 1/2 shifts over then next week

after a long talk with the mrs yesterday morning, due to the stress form working where i am and problems with family life . i have given my notice as i cant live life like this not knowing what im doing from day to day , cant plan any thing and the fact that 3 members of staff that started after me have had their contracts and been given permanent part time hours im not being taken for a mug. and sods law they have told me if i stay for a few more weeks there is 10 shifts i can have in the next 2 weeks. so as of next monday im unemployed but family come first.

I know the feeling mate. A few years ago I did some volunteering at a computer repair show to try and get some experience. My degree is in Computing but I worked in a pub for 4 years straight out of uni. I stuck it out because I had a bit of money saved to cover bill etc and I was promised full time work down the line. I lasted 7 months before I had no savings left and I was still being promised a job. After that I got a job pushing trollies at a supermarket.

Ironically, it was the fact that I'd taken the trolly job that helped get me my current job as a trainee photocopier engineer. My current boss was impressed by the fact that I'd gone out and taken whatever I could get rather than signing on.

Something will happen eventually mate, you just need to keep looking.

i was the same when i left collage, went to work for a local IT firm running there service centre at the time i was paid £4.20 ph 6 days a week, i did it for 9 months with no contract. and the last was after a very busy week (i had build 18 desktops, a server, and 10 home pc faults) worth 15k to the business and they paid me £200, while the engineers that could drive at the time were on 25K+ bonus. i am still friends with my old manager as he is a good guy and gave me a chance at 18.

i dont have a problem starting at the bottom and working my way up, i know i will never be at the top but i know when someone takes the piss.

Hope things come right for you bud. I am stuck in the 0 hour contract world, but I was lucky enough to be able to negotiate the hourly rate which,fortunately for me, has gone up when the full time staff have a pay rise. I have a couple of 0 hours with different companies-which is what makes it viable for me.

0 hour contracts are the norm now, I'm on one as a manager! I'm looking for another managerial job with a contract I have 2 children I need to provide for them. I'm in 12k as a manager yet I have the experience and skills for a job that pays 55k which is where my interview next week is paying managers. Life is just hard nowadays.

I know where your coming from i have 2 kids(lad has CP) so it is hard to balance, I would rather work 2-3 8hpw jobs knowing I'm just got to trying to stay a float then not know if this one job may or not pay me . On that note I better get ready for my shift
