hello , so i go to keg my second brew and all is going great , i check the keg and all seem fine so got it all in then give a tiny biy of gas to see if i have any leaks after my last one not sealing , i bought a second and had keg and with a bit of presure (not a lot) the top is split (sodding ebay)

so iv garbed every sep bottle in the house and stuck half of it in them .

should i go and get more bottles Now and bottler the rest ?

so what the score with clear bottles and keeping them in the dark ? can i stick um in the fridge a day before drinking them ?

do they sell the tops with the hole but not the gas bit ?

and if i got a top tomorrow could i stick the bottles back in to the keg or should i leave them alone now ?

cheers for any ideas :) d

I'm going to have a go at answering this one...

You've found some suitable bottles - enough for half you brew? Sounds good.

I would. You can buy fizzy water fairly cheap and I'd say its worth the small investment if only to save your hard fought brew. If you can find some brown ones from a nearby homebrew shop, mores the better.

That's pretty much it. Keep them in the dark

Yes.

Not sure what 'top' you mean, sorry.

Personally I'd leave them. Messing around can only risk infection and exposure to more oxygen.

Hope this helps and best of luck.

Thanks mate ,

the top i meant is the 2 inch ish white plastic top with a hole in for the gas valve that's on the top of the keg , iv seen them for £15 with the valve but i only need the plastic bit .

i think i will try and get one tomorrow and swap it , if i cant get one il bottle the rest unless you think that would be to late ?

cheers for your help :)

I don't know but suspect you may have to buy a top including a valve.

With regards being too late to bottle tomorrow... I suspect the only issue will be the fact that you've primed the brew for barrelling (I assume) and not been able to do so straight away. Whether you'd need to re-prime when you do come to barrel/bottle is a question someone more experienced than me might be able to answer. You may get a flat brew if you don't or bottle bombs if you do. :wha:

Well iv tranfered the last 6 liters today so hope it will be ok . time will tell .

now want to get another top with the pin sort of valve to match my other .

one good thing is in a weeks time i can put another brew on cuz il have an empty keg again :)

My local homebrew shop sells the lids without the gas valve, i forget how much they are but they are def available mate. As already stated just leave it in the bottles now and hope it all comes good

Hello,
I would be interested in the "keeping out of light" bit chaps. I have a fab under stairs area where all my heating pipes go through so its a constant 22degrees great for 1st fermentation. Then I have an outer utillity room which has been good for conditioning and clearing so all has gone well and I have had some great brews. Only thing is that this room has a florescent light in it and its always bloomin on because I live with people who cannot turn a switch off !! My taste buds could of course be shot after 30 years of adult drinking but I think my beer is ok. Am I just lucky or what with this light thing ??

All the best Col.
