Hi,

My brew is coming to the end of the ferment and I was going to Keg it up to condition in a few days.

I have some brand new Isinglass and was thinking of using some to ensure my first AG comes out looking as nice as possible.

If I add it to the FV, won't this clear any yeast that is supposed to help CO2 the keg when priming with sugar? :wha:

Or do I add it to the barrel when priming.?

Thanks.

Best way I have found to use it.

Transfer beer to secondary vessel and leave for a week; then it goes in to my fridge for 24 hours at 2-5 degrees C.
I then add auxillary finings and leave for 12-24 hours before adding the isinglass.

I have though stopped using fining agents....for the time being anyway.
I've found that just putting the beer in to a secondary vessel for a week and then putting it in the fridge for a few days will get most of the yeast out, but still leave enough to carbonate the brew if you are bottling.

Using fining agents is a good way to get beer clear and into drinking condition quickly. But as said above patience is also a good fining agent!
Even if beer is fined and looks crystal clear there will still be enough active yeast in suspension to act on any primings to bring the beer into condition although it may take a little longer :-)

That is what I had suspected.

I think I'll add Isinglass in the FV for a few days and then transfer to my Keg for priming \ conditioning. When my Isinglass runs out \ goes off, I may just let a future brew settle out under its own steam to compare the differences.

Thanks.

I used to be concerned about clear beer; quick clear beer.

I have tried both aux finings with isinglass and gelatine.
Soon realised that even with these, the flavour of the beer was only improving with time and all I was doing was getting to drink clear 'green' beer.
I used to find the aux finings and isinglass a bit hit and miss anyway.

I think that for now I am just going to rely on time and then getting the beer cold before transferring to final cask or bottle for conditioning.

If anything did look a bit stubborn, I think I'd probably go with gelatine....seemed more reliable to me if handled right.

.....lagers I think are another matter
I'll find out soon I suppose.
