Is this worth considering?

No apology needed. Binned off is probably harsh on them as they have been great through all of this.

Anyway what about a grainfather S40, any thoughts?
I have an S40 and it works pretty well. It is well made and has a good capacity. I bought a Brewzilla 35 because I wanted a slightly smaller potential brewing volume. When it comes to mashing in my opinion it is a unit that requires getting used to and gaining experience to get the best from it as the chosen mashing temperature once reached then has to fall about 2.5degrees before the heater kicks in again. This is where you need to learn how to over come that by manipulating the set temperature to switch the heating on and off. Of course you can just let it do its thing.I made lots of good beer using mine. There are two heating output values so when mashing it is best to keep it on the low setting. The onboard pump is brilliant much better than the one on the Brewzilla . It is so powerful you could split the output and put a tube down the side of the grain basket to help mix the mashing liquor and it makes a great whirlpool. There cannot be much difference in cost between an S40 and a Brewzilla though and the Brewzilla is more controlable and has less wort lost at transfer in my experience.

Thanks, sadly out of price range and too far..

Have just picked up a Bulldog Brewer with an MJ 25L stainless fermenter and MJ 19L corny for £200, this should more than fit my experience level.
Job done good for you!
