Ok, I farmed some yeast from the slurry of my last brew, its Wyeast London Ale. I pitched it yesterday evening to the starter wort, but I am wondering if the white blobs are good or not. Also, should I wait till it dies down and add fresh wort to get a double cycle before pitching it?

Looks like it's getting started - keep swirling it up regularly, a couple of times a day to keep it multiplying and in suspension and aerated
Once you get a decent slurry building up on the bottom from a few days swirling up then you can cool it so it settles, pour off the clearer starter liquid and then pitch the slurry into the next brew

Well it now looks like I have a very healthy yeast starter, at least its had a good head for the last few days. That is my new problem. It smells like gone off home brew and wont quit fermenting.

I guess the bad smell is because im using just malt extract, and I am swirling the starter 3 times a day (get the oxygen in). Does the long fermentation of the starter just mean I will get loads of yeast? Can I have too much yeast? I calculated the starter to be 1.4 litres with an OG of 1.03

If it smells bad/gone off and won't stop fermenting sounds like it's infected to me - don't use it unless you;re sure! A bad taste is normal but a bad smell not good
