Hi all im new to brewing and ive learnt as much as i can off my grandad.
One thing i would like to know is my beer should be ready its in a pressure barrel (i dont have any gas) what i want to do is take the barrel over to my mates party and crack it open(we will have can if it all goes tits up) but if i take it in the car its goin to shake up and disturb the sediment i guess will make it very cloudy. so my idea was on the day we go over say an hour befor i leave take it out the barrel into another tub leaving the sediment behind wash the barrel out then put the beer back in the barrel (gonna give me dad n grandad a couple of pints as im a nice lad) then take it over an drink that evening/night but will it go flat? (IVE BREWWED GEORDIE YORKSHIRE MILD BITTER)
Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Not sure it's a great idea. Even if your beer retains any fizz, without any pressure in the barrel, or any means to pressurise it, how do you expect to get the beer out?

Sorry to be negative but I think your best bet is to drink your brew at home and take a few cans to the party. If you bottle your next brew it'll be easier to transport.

Oh, and you'll need some CO2 at some point to get your beer out of the barrel even if you leave it at home.

Hi another way to get around it is to take the barrel over to your mates house week before and leave it somewhere cold to settle again.
If you start dropping the brew into another barrel not only will you open it to the air, which you don't want. You'll loose any Co2 that you may have built up in the brew so far.

+1, but you may also be okay if you can take it even 2 or 3 days before to settle again. Unless you get some CO2 don't even think of opening it up, unless you like flat beer at your party.

Oh right so if I did let air into it how long befor it goes flat? We were planning on drinking the lot in one night I cant drain it out the tap because its pressurized my plan is to put it in 5 l bottles next time so I dont have to crack a barrel open

If you're planning on drinking it on one night then there's no problem. Once the dispensing pressure has dropped then you unscrew the top cap and it drains by gravity, unless it's a top tap King Keg.

Get the keg over to your mate's house a few days prior though, to give it chance to settle again.

He lives a bout 30 miles away. Is it possible to switch the beer into a new container and remove the sediment and then put it back in the barrel all of it will b drunk easily in one night

Imagine your keg is a bottle of Coke. As soon as you open it it'll start to loose it's carbonation and I doubt you would be able to re-carbonate it by using more sugar. There won't be much yeast left for it to react with and also it would turn out sweeter than you would want.

You can rack it off to dispose of the sediment and then put it back into the keg but as soon as you open the keg in the first instance your beer will start to de-carbonate and become flat :-(

Moving the keg before the party would be the best option really but as you say 30 miles is a long trip to do

Does mild bitter have much fizz to it I only drink bitter and its seems very flat anyway?

No, not particularly. Forgetting my previous comments I say go for it. Rack it to another FV, clean out the sediment and transport it to your mates house.

After a couple of pints you may not care what it tastes like... assuming you can get a couple down.

Best of luck.

Next time... bottle it.

How long has the beer been in the Keg and whens the party..

If youve only just transfered to keg just transfer to a few empty PET bottles and screw tight leave for a few days to recarbonate..

I wouldnt go opening the keg....what happens if it doesnt get drunk it will be wasted because as soon as you invite oxgen into the keg your on limited time to drink it...

If the beers not been in the keg for too long then go raid the recyling bin for some coke bottles..no seddiment and enough fizz for a bittler

Enjoy and drink responsibly ha ha :drunk:

Hi beer has been in about a month now in the keg. My mates party is this sat i dont think any will be wasted as theres a fair few of us.
