Just finished an Irish stout partial mash comprising of 1/2 grain and 1/2 extract kit, realised I mashed the roasted barley for too long, around an hour. Will the beer be too acrid/bitter?
Cheers
  • 1.2kg maris otter pale malt
  • 0.3kg roasted barley
  • 0.4kg flaked barley
  • 1.7kg irish stout malt extract kit
  • 25g east kent goldings hops

No, just the one. A 1.7kg tin of mangrove jacks irish stout.
Ok well it’s going to be however it is, but that kit was designed to be made up with a plain fermentable like sugar or malt extract. To do it with a partial mash you only needed base malt no extra flavour.

Mashing the roast barley with the rest of the grain won’t be the issue if it is too strong in taste.
