Hi guys,

Just a bit of advice please, my Bulldog Evil Dog double IPA kit had an estimated fermentation time of 8-10 days (other parts of the manual suggested up to two weeks) tomorrow will be day 14 so I've been taking hydrometer reading every couple of days since Sunday. There readings I've had are;

Sun-1.020
Tues-1.018
Thurs-1.016

At this rate we are looking at next Wednesday before the brew is sub 1.010!

Do beers normally tail off like this and is the seemingly slow fermentation probably down to the unsteady temperature where I am keeping the fermenter?

Thanks in advance
Gary

First couple of days is where you'll see the majority of the fermentation.

It can take some patience towards the end to get down to your desired FG.

It's entirely normal for it to slow right down.

I had the same problem with my evil dog kit. It slowed right down as you said tried turning the heat up a little, giving it a gentle stir to rouse the yeast up and eventually got down to 1014, have you added the dry hop addition yet? This seemed to speed things up a little, if I remember rightly.

This kit tends to take 2-3 weeks to finish. Yours will be fine so don't worry. Leave it for another few days before taking another reading. I think mine took a full 3 weeks before it settled at 1008.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I have not yet added my dry hop, would you recommend that now would be a good time? I like my beers as hoppy as I can get them!

I would try and wake the yeast up a little and maybe get a few points lower then Chuck em in, to be honest I don't think they made much of a difference to my brew. Think I left em in for about 3 days

Please excuse my newbie question, how would I go about waking up the yeast?
