 hello, I'm new to brewing, just fancied making my own beer, mainly interested in making lager, brown ale and pale ales to start with. I bought a youngs starter kit, and followed the "basic" instructions provided,,,, near enough to the letter :? I mixed all the ingredients and left it to ferment for 8 days, then siphoned it in to a pressure barrel and added about 60 carbonation drops and a sachet of finings and left it for two weeks, just drew a sample and it is a bit cloudy??? Have I killed my beer or can it be rescued?

THANX Paul...

Hey Paul, welcome to the forum.

was there any carbonation in the beer at all or was it flat?

Hi THANX for the reply, it is slightly carbonated,,,, just had a little taste, but its not too good....

I would have left it a little longer in the fv, the instructions are a little optimistic at best. Did you take a hydrometer reading before transferring to our barrel, if so what was the reading?

How much sugar is a carbonation drop equivalent to? :wha:

Hi I did take a hydrometer reading,,, it was 1.000 if I was reading it correctly, and the carbonation drops were 1 drop per 300 - 400 ml so I put 60drops in, but when I siphoned from the fv to the keg I left quite a bit in the bottom so as not to disturb any sediment.
