Hi, I live in in Stone, Staffs. Home of the old Joules Brewery! Still some brewers here, Lymestone brewery for example. I used to brew at home many years ago, and I worked in Hanley next unit to Titanic Brewery, where they started in 1984. Botteslow Street.

I now know lots of brewers in Holland - microbreweries, and I am off to see them at a bierfestival in Wormer, near Amsterdam, next Thursday, 6th September. Staying 4 days in Holland. I will see my friends from Tasty Lady brewery too - is beer brewed in Holland by 5 women, all who are lovely friends, and experts in brewing. I am promised a bottle of the new "Sprout" beer,- Russian type stout, brewed to commemorate the birth of my friend Dagmar's son. Her husband, Doctor Faba, brews beer for a living too. Should be an interesting time - I will let you know later what happens there. Dutch beer is really good - and I encourage them all to stock our favourite English beers in their shops, which they do, they love it!

I will get in touch when I get back next week, - coming back Monday 10th September.

See you later when I get back from Holland!

Hi, I live in in Stone, Staffs.

Welcome aboard

I spent a large part of my late teens at the BT training centre just outside Stone. Large facility with several thousand engineers away from home for a couple of weeks. Happy days, I seem to remember the local pub was quite sedate but a pub about a mile away used to be a bit wild with cradle snatchers night on a Tuesday and grab a granny (or cougars today :D ) on a Thursday.

No knocking intended :D just remembered the name of the pub - the Wayfarers. seems to have had a 750K refurb, looks a bit posher than it was in my day.

I know the Wayfarer - I have not been there for years. I live near Walton Roundabout, a mile away. I also went into the Labour in Vain in Yarnfield a couple of times years ago - the only pub in Yarnfield and it was still quite empty in the evening. Not very good. Near BT training college, I know it well. I do not go to pubs around here at all. I will be in Plenty in Holland over the weekend though! Breugems Brewerey in Zaandam is my first stop - great pub and brewery, then the beer festival is on Saturday in Wormer, near to Amsterdam, and I will sample lots of beers from the Dutch small breweries. I have got to know lots of these people over the years, - (I go every 2 or 3 months), and they all brew good beers, and some have shops, selling bottles mostly, and some cans, from all over the world. They do sell some English beers too, - Titanic and Spitfire seem to sell well. I will let you know how it goes. I always ask them about brewing too. I will make my own recipe soon and get a brew on at home. Maybe I can get some good hops and yeast from Holland while I am there. I will see my friend Jolanda Buhrs at her shop in Krommenie too, and see if she is stocking English beers yet. All these towns are quite close together - about 8 miles from Amsterdam to Krommenie, and the others are in between. They do have some great beers. One I particularly liked last time, in June, was called White Beer - light, like lager, but not like wheat beer, and 9% alc, served ice cold. They make a few of these types in North Holland. Groningen in North Holland is reckoned to make some of the best. So I will go and try some. I would like to make some of my own!

See you when I get back next week. :)
