3 hours from start to finish to steralise all equipment, bottle and clean up. I WANT A KEG!

Get yourself a bottle tree and rinser, use with Videne or other steriliser that works on contact and the job is much more bearable. get yourself a keg as well.

Clean the bottles as you use them, cover with silver foil and store in boxes . . .come bottling day a quick rinse with videne and they are done.

similar here :thumb:

also, I recommend a Brupacs bottling stick and a bench capper, I usually manage to bottle 5 gallons in little over an hour start to finish, batch priming, including a quick rinse through of bottles and cleaning FV etc :thumb:

another vote for that method too. Much easier to clean the bottles as you use them. requires discipline at partys etc though!

At your local chemist or http://www.expresschemist.co.uk/Videne- ... ution.html ( other sites too )

As already said, a tree and rinser saves hours of work  I got my tree and rinser a few weeks ago, it really is a god send. And also a bottling stick saves an awful lot of hassle, they're only about £2 or £3.

Thanks for the link I've just ordered a couple of bottles!!!

I know there are a couple of different types of videne solution. Is this the one everyone uses?

Thanks :thumb:

Hi,

I wash out the bottles as I use them then they go through the dish washer and then onto the bottle tree. On bottling day I just fill up the resovior with no rinse and off you go. The bottle tree, pump rinser and crates make the job a nice one rather than a pain.

I recommend star San. 1.5 ml in a 1l of water. It's a no rinse steroliser so I clean bottles after use and cover with a cap you can from eBay or most brew shops then swill my bottles with the star San and bottle my brew straight away. No fuss! Bottling doesn't have to be a chore.

someone correct me if im wrong but I think the idea is you dont have to rinse after using videne. Just clean things well then rinse with Videne - job done!

I havn't been using Videne for long but I can really say its the mutts nuts.

As long as your bottles are clean and free from debris, just stick an inch or so in the bottle and give it a couple of shakes and pass it on to the next one. Stick your bottle on your tree so the last remaining drops are removed and you are ready to fill with your brew. I always have the solution made up in a spray bottle for cleaning my fermenting bins and spoons, paddles etc etc.

Stick to the ratio of 1.25 ml to a litre of water and you won't go wrong. At first I had my doubts about the stuff, but up to now none of my brews has been spoilt and there is definately no aftertaste.

As for saving time, I wish I found Videne years ago. Steralising and bottling a brew is now down to about fortyfive minutes.

Do you have to have a bottle tree or can you just give the bottle a shake; budget doesn't allow for a bottle tree just now.
