What is the correct way of taking a hydrometer reading? I always seem to struggle with trying to read mine due to the cloudiness of the sample. Would I do better filling the trial jar to the top? :wha:

Hi Paul, fill trial jar 2/3 or so and float hydro in it,wherever the liquid comes to on the hydro scale is where you take your reading.
Cloudy or not you should clearly be able to see where the liquid line comes to and take the reading. ken

Take the reading from where the hydrometer meets the sample. Ignore the bit where the sample appears to curve up to meet the glass of the hydrometer but read as though the sample was completely flat. For example the picture below would read 1.064

put your hydrometer in a sample of water at 20ºc. wherever 1.000 falls is the point you need to measure from.
