Hi All,

I'm going to brew 10 gallons of dark tzar at the weekend
and i wuld like to know how many packets of danstar nottingham yeast ill need?

Thanks

I would add 4 or better still make a starter or even better still brew five gallons of a bitter and then use the yeast cake. You need to pitch a lot of yeast with these heavy beers. When I did my barley wine 1080 I pitched onto 2 litres of yeast cake from a previous bitter and it went like a train.

http://www.mrmalty.com. You can't go wrong if you use it. It will calculate the appropriate amount of cells based on volume and OG for you.

+1 I use Mr Malty for each brew :thumb:

4 packets of Notty should be good, rehydrate with 10 x sterilized water as this http://www.danstaryeast.com/sites/default/files/nottingham_datasheet.pdf these yeasts are designed to be used this way and making a starter can make them less viable. Notty usually starts pretty quick.
