Hi all, I have a Tom Caxton real ale in a FV that is still bubbling away at about once every 2 minutes after 8 days. is this normal as the instruction state that fermentation is between 4-6 days, the temp in the room has stayed at around 20c all that time.

Thanks in advance

Alan

I'm a noob to all this but I believe you need a hydrometer to make sure, take a measurement, check in two days and if its the same its finished.

The first thing I learned was to ignore the kit instructions. You want to give it a good 2 week's before thinking of bottling. I usually give it 2 weeks at room temp then a week in the cold shed to clarify.

Thanks Hyster, I do have a hydrometer but did not want to open it up while it is still bubbling away.

if its still bubbling its not finished yet ... :thumb: .

regards mick... :hat: .

You do sometimes get a beer de-gassing, even when fermentation has finished and I've quickly learnt to ignore the airlock altogether. I did a lager that finished at 1.014, then had three weeks in DJs, after which it was still bubbling in the airlocks but was still 1.014.

Trust the hydrometer and nothing else!

Thanks for all the help, I will take draw a sample out and use the hydrometer.
