how do i batch prime with treacle

hi brewers

will be bottling my Irish stout at the weekend and wanted to batch prime it with black treacle which I've never used before how do you guys do it I'm guessing u boil it up with some water any help will be welcome

yep you got it , boil water adding treacle when warm , boil for 10 mins , cool to room temp add to new clean fv , transfer beer onto it (avoid splashing ) job done , bottle straight away . Hope it all goes well for you . :cheers:

I'm going to be doing this too, do you just use treacle gram for gram as you would with sugar ?

I tend to just get a couple of ladlefuls of beer into a pan, add the priming load (whatever it is) and heat it to just below boiling.

That's going to kill anything nasty and won't change any flavour, you're also not adding any water to dilute (although I doubt you'd ever notice anyway...).

Cool it down a bit, you don't have to get it really cold as the beer you siphon on top will cool it quickly.

I used about 100g treacle for 23l and that was too much, I had slightly too fizzy (but really very tasty) stout. If I did it again I'd go around 70-80g I think.
