just pulled a pint of what was 2nd best brew to date [ 1st being thirst gold ,top recipee cheers wez] only to find orrible vinegary taste in it , ive had this in barrell for about a month now lovely brew with target and brambling cross hops , been 10 days since i last sampled it and it tastes bad, cant understand why though, carbonations still ok just wondered if recent hot weather could be owt to do with it [barrells are stored in garage] like a tw*t been rationing miself with it with hindsight i should ave caned it, puzzled as to why something thats airtight can go bad

Contamination in fv or barrel or during transfer to barrel?

I lost two brews recently. When cleaning out the FV I found some deep scratches down at the bottom end. Only visible because all the brown crud was lodged in them but I'm quite confident this is what turned 70 pints of top brews into grass feed.

it only takes one of the blighters to start multplying and bang piss water, the heat won't have helped either once the infection got hold.

Clean and bleach everything then rinse thoroughy infections in a barrel can be a git to remove, you don't wan the next one infected too.

cheers for answers, can i assume then that a brew can taste ok to start with then get worse as infection increases ,this was probably ag#13[how appropriate] and never had a brew change from good to bad like that before , i,d been trying to make this last for a world cup special probably lost about 3 gal in total ,gonna get another brew on before weekend, still got 3 other barrels on go at mo [wheat beer, first gold ,strong pale ale] so alls not lost :)
