Hello all
Going off on a tangent with this one in response of the "Grenfell tower" thread...
As said a bunch of idiots doing something mindless, shocking, sick etc etc to any normal person.
Has any complaints ever been made about such things as the "Nazi" episode of Father Ted or other satyrical Nazis such as depicted in 'allo,'allo? In reality Nazis weren't that funny...priests have also had a lot of bad press recently too....
So funny or not? Where do you stop?
Thoughts please...

There's a fine line between funny and bad taste. I was quite a fan of Frankie Boyle when he first came on the comedy scene and he's been known to cross the line on one or two occasions.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. Some people will freeze up at the merest hint of a topic that could be related to something controversial somehow. Others will crease up at the crudest of Maddie jokes. Personally, I love dark humour, but it depends on the situation too. For sure, I wouldn't crack the same jokes at a job interview as in the pub.

I like most people find it in terrible taste and certainly do not condone it but wasting police time and valuable resources which could be used in better ways (95 year old man robbed and beaten in his own home recently)bearing the massive cutbacks in the last decade it is not how to combat things like this as I do not see it as a criminal illegal activity just a very sick joke. Most people in the nearby community to the posters would police this themselves by shunning refusing them entry to shops leisure facilities also they would be castigated and probably trolled online by the seriously offended. I also do not condone kangaroo courts but sometimes community policing is the only way to go

Hmmm...interesting comment..eye of the beholder...the general consensus is that there cannot be such a thing as the pc lot wont allow it should someone be upset. Someone will always be upset about something...

I get upset about gender-benders and all that ridiculous LGBT nonsense but I'm generally not allowed to say so...

I’m offended on your behalf that your right to free speech and self expression may cause offence to someone or lead to someone being offended on their behalf.

Where does it stop? If a joke makes nine people laugh and offends one, who is right?

Personally I would rather hear lots of funny jokes, with a few that offended me, than the insipid humourless rubbish churned out by the BBC etc.

I think the reason that this thread is getting a overall opinion that it is the way of the world is that the majority of us are from the Alf Garnett era and not SNOWFLAKES whoa I said it. Remember love thy neighbour - wouldn't get away with that nowadays as well

The main characters in LTN gave each other as good as they got - all good, clean fun. There is no comedy these days... it depends on someone having a laugh at someone else's 'expense' but you simply can't do that anymore. What a shyte and boring world this is becoming. All we've got to look forward to is global warming taking us out whilst we're being extraordinarily nice and polite to one another. Great...

The point is the intention of the joke. In general Nazi characters are being satirised, people don't tend to just play clips of holocaust imagery to laugh tracks. For normal decent people even bad taste humour whereby you make an outrageous racist or sexist statement because everyone gets that its the preposterous ideas being made fun that is the joke.. this isn't really very doable to a large audience as the intent is less understood. This was my initial assumption of the said tower model thing, that it was some crass "edgy" joke thing, but upon seeing the video im ninety nine percent sure it's just run of the mill garden variety racist white morons that take sick pleasure in the idea of brown people dying. Mainly the pictures of people in the windows and my assumptions about the way the idiots looked.

As a side note, there was a lot about the Nazis that was hilarious. Hitler had a fart doctor as he was such a mad gasser that got him hooked on crystal meth and myriad other drugs, they all believed in stupid fantasy ghosts and were a generally ridiculous bunch of clowns that just happened to also be horrific. Perhaps their inherent clownishness masked their evil potential until it was too late... Wonder if there are any parallels we can look to today?

It depends on the manner of neighbor love...
I am amused by the correlation between people going on about snowflakes and the constant touchy outrage and indignation of those self same people at every little non story that pops out of the media churn.
See most of the posts in the snug, all of the daily mail for examples.. not that outrage isn't well justified. Better than apathy to be sure.

What have you started Clint its going to be as long as the Brexit thread Lol

The point of the joke...yes exactly but most of the nonsense stems from ultra pc knobheads who really have lost the plot...
Which nonsense? Celebrating burning 'darkies' or something other?
Frankly I've never met any of these ultra pc people. They seem to me to bea fantastically tiny minority of media people that write inflammatory click bait stuff because it gets some people soar worked up. Then the other side of this tiny minority gets triggered by them and write overblown exaggerations of their viewpoint and then everybody start screaming and crying anda bunch of media people get some easy money.
The are plenty reasons to get upset but try don't conscern the behaviour of some random idiot, they concern the behaviour of corrupt systems of oppression.
But that's just, like, my opinion dude

Haha. This is so true. I've met loads of people whose blood pressure boils at all the "pc nonsense", but I've never met a "snowflake" in real life, just read blogs or articles by people who obviously have thin skin, or more often Daily Mail articles about some **** who nobody should pay attention to, but the Daily Mail likes paying attention to them because they sell papers to those whose blood boil at "pc nonsense". In some ways, the snowflakes are the ultimate trolls.

And the moral of the story is.............

don't believe everything you read. All newspapers, TV and radio stations constantly try to hook you in with sensationalist headlines, usually to let you down with mundane stories about non-events. Either that or plug features in other parts of its group, disguised as news.
