anyone tried making horseradish wine/booze.. is it possable?
the idea came to me last night.........

Ps was thinking a recipe along the lines of parsnip or ginger wines..

also think it would need to be quite strong alc %. would anyone recommend
a suitable yeast,{mostly just use a super wine yeast compound for everything}

thxs..

interesting :hmm:

a champagne yeast will give around 18%

I am currently using gervin GV4 for GA's port
GV4 should achieve 21%

any higher than that look at alcotec yeast...

I would suggest a "complete" nutrient feed instead of general purpose DAP
give the yeast the best chance to go high ABV

look at fermax or tronozomol nutrients

start the fermentation around 1.080 - 1.090 SG
wait till it drops to around 1.010
then sugar feed to 1.020-1.030
repeat feeding until you kill them all from alcohol poisoning...

don't worry they all die happy doing what they like to do...

Why would you want to :wha: :wha:

As a cautionary tale I found this from someone who made it.

" HorseRadish wine is not unheard of but it is very rare. I found out that if you need an extreme diuretic or if you need to pass a gall stone that horseradish wine might be just the thing while this was interesting I can not say I found it that appealing. Still you never know maybe this could be one of those rare unusual combinations that create a new masterpiece in culinary art. With an open mind and clogged sinuses I cautiously pulled my test subject from the fridge. One sniff and the sinus problem was cleared this creation has a very lasting presence to its aroma. Daring to be brave I skipped the cautious sip and belted it down. Ugg Uggg euk uk uk uk uk euuuukkkkk I can't breath my heart is pounding, my facial muscles are no longer working but are cramped a tight as the toes that are curled in my boots. I hear a pounding in my head which turns into a pounding on my back as my laughing wife tries to initiate normal function to my lungs again. My facial muscles finally relaxed, breathing has returned to normal but I am afraid that the dampness in my shorts may attest to the diuretic power of horseradish wine.
Just to be clear, horseradish on Pork is a good thing, horseradish wine is a force not to reckoned with, therefore this project ends here"

Why can't people just stick to grapes or at least sweet things to make wine. :nah: :nah: :nah:

was there a recipy with that tale GA?

probably best not to make the same as that one

Horse Radish vodka is well worth doing and does cure the common cold - or it gives you some many other issues to deal with the common cold is put out of mind.

I imagine it would work very well paired with gravadlax.

Oh yes!

You should do it and video the tasting session, sounds like a laugh!

You are definitely in the experimental group of wine makers......

I have a few 1/2 gallon DJ's sitting empty

I might try a horseradish or wosabi experimental brew :-)

take a yeast starter of GV4 from the port :hmm:

yes.. it all sounds interesting thxs, think the idea defiantly warrants further investigation :thumb:

Horseradish vodka is *delicious*!

I had (far to much of) it in Moscow for the first time a few years ago. The alternative was cranberry. No competition!
