I have always thought putting pellet hops in a bag is a waste of money? I dont think they are designed for this, surely they have to be let loose to fully penetrate the wort?
Crash cooling gets them to drop out anyway.
Anyone else think this?

Are you talking about dry hopping or during the boil?

I def think during the boil there is a diminishing effect using bags and found better results myself going loose..

I always use bags now as the one time I didn't the tap on my boiler got badly clogged.

I'm drinking a Black IPA now and its more than happy enough for me.

Bags FTW :D

I've done both, and left the hops in during fermentation.

Haven't noticed to much difference, but as I can get 5 litre paint strainer bags for free from work, and the cleanliness factor.

I'm for bagging up. 😱

I remember being told to always "bag up" if I was anywhere near Birmingham

I'm with you on the paint strainer bags, I put the dry hops in loose in the FV, then line the bottling bucket with the paint strainer and rack through it. Only the fine hop dust gets through and it settles out pretty quickly.

Logic convinces me that using muslin bags for dry hops must absorb some of the flavour/oils.
