Evening all,

I'm currently struggling to get hold of certain AA% of hops as per recipes in Greg Hughes' book and had a question. If for instance, the recipe has 10g of X hop @ 10% AA, could I use 20g of X hop @ 5% AA and achieve the same thing?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Yep, you got it. Alpha acid percentage varies from year to year, even for the same variety and grower. You’ll rarely get the same exact percentage stated in the recipe so use either a software recipe builder (e.g. BeerSmith) or online calculators, many of which are free, such as this one:

Hops also loose their bitterness with age/storage etc, but let’s not complicate things! :laugh8:
