I'd say no, ideally your hop strainer needs to be something with lots of holes (holes for hops slots for grain) inside the boiler and attached to the tap, so, when you run off from the boiler the hops settle around it and the hops create a filter bed which filters out the break material.

Depends on the size of it :wha: They say the biggest is 9.4mm dia by 9mm high You wouldn't fit a single hop cone in there!!
Were you going to use this inverted at the bottom of the boiler or catch hops in it as you run off from the boiler?

Oh right on it's side behind the tap might just work, as Wez said it needs to have the hops around it to help filter out the trub and break material. So if you can seal it against the side of the boiler, I can't see why not, but you also will need to remove it to clean it every brew as well.
Have you thought of just a simple piece of copper pipe with V small holes in it?

I thought maybe to have this central, upside-down in the boiler with a tube connecting it to the tap. This way it would be easy to remove and clean as the tube can just be pushed in or something

Your still going to struggle to seal it up on the bottom of the boiler and the large platic rim will hold back a liter or so of wort if you plate the bottom of the strainer.
:hmm: I'm going of it more I think it to it.

One of the latter worked for me temporarily in my new setup.

It's a bugger getting the tube out of the middle though.

I just use the mash bag that came with my tun. Works a treat (if you don't mind it being permanently brown after brewing porters).

I of course am going to recommend THIS
As can be seen in the pictures below it works fairly well :D
