I acquired myself a Wilko Pilsner kit and a bag of dextrose the other day. I wont be using the yeast supplied, instead i will be taking advantage of the cold weather and using Brewferm lager yeast instead(wanted S23 but too stingey). With a pilsner enzyme.
I have a packet of Saaz to hand. Before making the kit up i plan on boiling up say 5 litres of water and adding the hops at various points like you would on an all grain recipe, then using that hopped water to dissolve the dextrose and pilsner kit and make up as normal.
Would that work? If so could i just follow a hop schedule from any 20-23l recipe online? Could anyone recommend a good hop schedule using the Saaz.
I realize this is just a step away from an extract brew but i wanted to see if i could make a very reasonable pilsner/lager from a budget kit.
