Hello everybody,

\i'm new to this forum, but not to brewing. However, I have never used hop pellets before. Do you use the same weight of pellets in the recipe as the weight of hops? If, not is there a formula/rule of thumb to work out the pellet weight? What are the pros and cons of pellets?

Lots of questions.

Cheers.

Hi and welcome to the forum

I had some hop pellets given to me, and when I asked about I was advised to use 10% less weight than the planned amount of leaf hops.

As for pros and cons I am sure there are plenty but I just chucked mine in with some other leaf hops so probably didn't notice any. The beer was cracking though if that helps :thumb:

Pellets store better and yes you do get a better extraction efficiency.
You also need to make sure that the hop strainer in your boiler can cope with them - they fragment to a very fine mush whilst you are boiling.
