A friend told me today that she has a hop plant growing in her garden. She inherited a booklet when she moved in listing what was in the garden. It listed the hops as "Aureum" which I think is Latin for golden. Could this be goldings?

http://home.btconnect.com/Micropropagation/DwarfHops/DwarfHopsBody.htmBrewing - harvest the cones in early September when fragrant, slightly sticky. Dry slowly for several days in an airing cupboard (in the dark) until papery.

Don't ask me . . . I've always understood Aureum to be a decorative variety . . . Obviously it's not golden tassels though . . . Golden something . . . Going to have to go and look  :twisted:Tony said:Arrrggghhh ... what to do..?? Aleman ... help!

borischarlton said:If your brewing with hops with an unknown AA you can use them with good effect for aroma. Use a known bittering hop then chuck in as many as you like in the last few minutes of the boil. I am vistiting a hop garden next week and we are able to buy wet hops there, this is their advice. Also if they are going to be used "wet" then use 8 times the normal amount.

I did one last year and used four times the normal amount. It worked out pretty much in the ballpark going by my tastebuds anyway. It certainly was a cracking beer.

It's a dwarf variety and she brewed with it last year.
