've seen a number of recipes here that break the hops down into small batches, each with different boiling times. For example:

15g Fuggles: 60 mins
15g Fuggles: 15 mins
15g Fuggles: 10 mins
15g Fuggles: End of boil

What effect does this have on the flavour as I just put all of my hops in to boil at once?

The hops you put in at the start of the boil are your main bittering hops. The hops put in 10-15 mins before the end are for flavour and aroma, the ones at the end of the boil (or steeping as it's called) are for aroma.

Hope that clears things up :thumb:

Perfectly, thanks. I think this means that I kind of cocked up on my last brew! If it's been in the FV for 5 days, is it still OK to add some dry hops?

Yes it would be fine, although I would transfer it into another vessel before adding the hops (once fermentation has finished).

Leave it for at least 3 days with the dry hops in before kegging or bottling
