Hi All!

First post here, after deciding id like to start brewing just after Christmas (friend got a beer kit which made me start looking into homebrew) i finally got around to going to my local home brew store and picking up a few basic bits to get started

I got a 1 gallon DJ and a 2 gallon FV, on monday i mixed up and started a Honey Cider brew and stuck it in the DJ, started bubbling within a few hours and after 24 hours getting more than a bubble a second!

Today i was reading about the Ribena Wine/Robinsons punchs so popped down to tesco and Ribena cartons were on offer for 1 pound!

Just mixed it all up now and put it in my cupboard :)

One thing to ask, just read through a few Ribena recipes and most are using equal parts water and ribena, I used 8 parts ribena to 2 parts water, will this just make it richer?

starting gravity for the cider was 1062 so hoping for around 7-8%

starting gravity for the ribena wine was 1076 so 10% would be great!

Thanks for all the great info on this site, has been very helpful gettin me started :)

Cheers, went for the cartons as it has no preservatives or additives just vitamin c (which im assuming is ascorbic acid) and citric acid :)

You went down the same route as I did. I much prefer the idea of using non-preserved juice so that no boiling is required (which will take away some flavour).

The ones you were looking at with 1:1, were they cordial? When checking out recipes always be cautious that you are comparing apples with apples or the recipe will end up wrong. Any quantities of cordial need to be multiplied by 5 to get the quantity of carton juice to add :)

I'm sure it'll be fine though, definitely drinkable anyway :D :drunk:
