So not sure how to start about it, but I'm making a brew for an MC who are mainly in the military and do a lot of work for ptsd charities , I've had a crazy idea of turning a green army 20l jerry can into a keg , I'm looking at somehow attaching the growler keg dispensing top.

Anyone see if this would be a problem, asuming if I weld an inner thread to jerry can opening to allow the dispenser to just screw in as designed

I like the idea, don't know how well the Jerry can will stand up to the internal pressure but provided it can I don't see a problem.

Yea the pressure is gonna be the main issue, I've emailed wavian the company that make them asking for pressure rating, it's a sealed welded metal unit so it should be good for a beer I reckon

Jerry-Kegs aka hdpe jerrycans with waterbut taps fitted at just above the base level were championed by a chap over on Jims a while back, might be worth a visit and search..

iirc they are great for ales and bitters but have a lower max pressure closer to 4-5psi than your usual pb which should take 10-15psi (wide range due to elastic band prv)

i suspect you may have similar pressure issues with a steel can, also i would confirm they have an inner film coating as beer is a mildly corrosive liquid, just ask anyone who has used a minikeg for one too many brews..

with Stainless steel you can employ silver solder or even lead free plumbers solder with the right flux to adjoin a 2" triclamp ferrule, mild steel however?? and what impact the heat would have on any inner protective coating is also an unknown??

Dude, nice. As an engineer, I would say at the pressure we deal with as a homebrewer, aaa, no problem. Those cans are built to with stand heat, gas pressure, cold... by a thousand times what we use our pressure buckets for. But you need to make an adapter that fits those, patent it and then love knowing you've created the most advanced survival item on EARTH.

If I'm honest I consider this idea only one small step better than the idea of using former creosote containers to use for brewing which cropped up on here last year.

There are lots of new ready made PBs out there which are made from food grade materials, don't require modification, are designed for the purpose, and are of comparative cost. Why not simply buy one of them?
I do like the idea of modifying one for a drinks cabinet though. :thumb:

Read original post and you will know why, it's a military esque themed ale to be given to a local MC for there charity work

I really do applaud your sentiment and desire to support a worthy cause :thumb:but still feel its a flawed idea.
Nonetheless if you do go ahead I hope it works out. At least any beer within won't taste of creosote..... diesel perhaps.... sorry, only joking.
Anyway, all the best with it.

Why not make it in such a way that it looks like it is being dispensed from the Jerry can but in fact just run the beer line down thru it into a cornie?

probably the easiest and least problematic solution, guaranteed to not only work but serve a good pint too ;)
