Its true!

I started my homebrewing hobby in earnest at the end of last year, so made a commitment to myself that I would not buy any beer for consumption at home for the entire year (2014). The occasional pint in the pub is still fine though.

I have not done anything differently in terms of exercise, eating or lifestyle, but I have shed just over 1 stone in weight between January and March with absolutely no effort at all.

Guinness used to be my can of choice, but I now have a selection of different homebrews to choose from, with the available stock changing all the time as more options come available after their conditioning periods. I am not aware that I am drinking any less either, as the stocks seem to go down pretty fast.

What a bonus though!
Drink beer - lose weight - save cash.
Everyones a winner!!

Drink better, drink less, spend practically nothing, feel smug about your creative genius, lose weight from avoiding dodgy extra sugars and additives, and stay fit from lugging sacks of grain and 5 gallon kegs around all the time.

Why WOULDN'T you brew beer?

I find with home brew a few tasty ales hits the same spot as a skinful of bland commercial muck. So not only am I drinking less, but I'm enjoying what I drink more!
I do wonder if that is it in a nutshell.

In my eyes, I am drinking the same amount, ie I am having as much as I want to to hit the spot.
When I spoke to my wife about it last night however, she is convinced that I am drinking less, which would explain the 'no effort' weight loss.

With my 'new-found healthiness' I have just started the Couch to 2k running programme, while my weight is down a bit so it is less stress on the knees! Have tried running before and have always knackered my knees before I got used to it, so I am using the podcast as it forces you to take it easy.
So I will probably be crippled in pain in a weeks time, sitting on the sofa sipping another home-brew to ease the suffering!!

I vowed to do this for 2014...I lasted until beginning of Feb when my Dad fell ill and I did not get the time to brew..I can concur that weight loss does happen...I lost about 10lb in weight, but some of this I attribute to the stresses of Dads illness and the funeral etc.

I'm back now...fighting fit again, head in gear, so can make the changes to make this happen. I have 2 bottles of Firsty Ferret...These are the last 2 bottles for 2014...I have a corny of Topaz Pale...1 empty pressure barrel, 2 other empty cornys..I have a fresh bag of Maris otter, bag of Munich, bag of crystal, bag of wheat malt..in my hop store I have, Cascade, Topaz, Brewers Gold and Goldings...Ive got some Citra and Galaxy on order...

You don't need to be a Sherlock to work out that I like pale hoppy stuff...
