Hi Im new and just starting out accumulating a few bits to get me off the ground, hopefully without too much cost. Any tips on where to look for second hand kit most welcome.

Strike that, I see you've posted about DJs,

Try your local Freegle or car boot sales, but 5 litre mineral water bottles for less than a quid from any of the major supermarkets make ideal fermenters. If you have a local branch of Wilkinson's you can pick up a twin pack of airlocks and drilled rubber bungs quite cheaply.

Cheers knew someone would have a cheap way to get going ;) Do I need a filter if I use a kit? Im comparing with shop bought here as that has just got too pricy :(

You should never “need” a filter, they should only ever be an ‘optional extra’ to give a brilliant shine to wines you thought were already completely clear. With whites and light pinks it can make quite a significant visible difference if you want to really impress your mates but for darker pinks and reds it's pretty pointless.
