Back to brewing after a break of forty years!

Currently have a batch of lager (Coopers Extract Kit) conditioning in the keg and a batch of Mild (Fulstow Brewery All Grain Marsh Mild Kit) ready to be bottled later today.

Gave up brewing all those years ago after two consecutive 5 gallon brews went "off" and it took me forty years to discover "sterilisation"! Doh!!

Also, almost gave up on even drinking beer after moving to Scotland in 1981 where everything seemed to be just that bit too sweet. Then I discovered a brewery in Alford around 1984 that did a perfect pint of bitter and enjoyed a brief return before the brewery went bust!

I retired thirteen years ago, spent the first eight years of retirement living on the canals of Europe and now settled on the coast of Lincolnshire.

That's about it for me.

Looking forward to being a contributor and an active member of the Forum whenever I am in the UK, which is for about six months of the year.

Welcome to the forum (and welcome back to brewing).

Yes sterilizing everything is an important step. Gone are the days where we can use the dipstick from the car as a hydrometer and we no longer strain our wine through the wife's tea-towels hanging on the back of the kitchen door - I also read somewhere that an old fish tank is no longer a suitable fermentation vessel - even if you remove the fish first. ;)

Welcome to the forum. :thumb:I returned to brewing after a 20 year break when i came accross this forum. Glad i did as i found so much help on here my beers have been great since then.:D
