Hi there I'm a bit of a novice at brewing, I have just made my first batch of ipa however I think I have just ruined it, I have misread the instructions and somehow added 300g sugar to the keg not 85 as advised, has this ruined the batch or is it going to be like syrup?

Hope I'm not the first to do this, any advise would be nice, thanks

Calm down, you haven't ruined it, the yeast will use up all of that extra sugar and you're just going to end up with a bit more alcohol.

However, if that's sealed inside a plastic keg you are going to generate a LOT of fizz, so if your keg starts to distort you may need to release a bit of gas.

Do you know if your keg has a pressure relief valve?

I don't use plastic kegs so a few more replies would be helpful from those who do.

Welcome to the forum

Welcome. As M says the extra sugar will be converted to alcohol, but also a lot more co2 so will end up over carbonated if not released.

Hi guys thanks for your replies, I have used a king keg with a threaded bit on top to add additional co2 though I'm guessing I won't be needing that this time, am I ok to loosen the lid to relieve pressure or will that turn out bad? Also should I leave it a little longer to allow secondary fermentation?

Thanks again,

:hat:

Hi & welcome...

Looking forward to hearing how it turns out;)

Just a little update, I have had about 4 pints of this so far and it tastes really nice, I have also given out a few tasters to friends and family, so far everyone has said it's nice (phew).

I have been told it only gets better with age too so leaving it another few weeks before having my next taster to see if I can notice the difference.

Thanks again for the helpful replies, I truly thought it was off down he drain.
