I guess you can call me a proper virgin in hombrew! bought a startup kit few weeks ago but already realise we need to expand 0.o I've bottled the first batch ( larger) second batch is Ale but atm finding my feet with what I like, normally like Foster's or Carling ( Carbonated water) followed by Guinnes Smooth or John Smith's so it's finding the balance, I also like Bitter and Cider so quite a wide scope, wife has started making her own wine as well so far 1 Red 1 White..
Everything is water and mix stuff that we have bought so far but we will be advancing as quick as our mables will allow..
My goal is to make from grain itself, Maris Otter seems to be pretty much what is used but is other malting barleys used like Concerto, Venture, Craft, Propinio etc used at all?

Welcome to The Forum!

All Malts have their place, it just depends what you like to drink and/or brew.

I suggest that you click on Recipes > Browse > Fermentables; where you will find a bewildering selection of things that you can ferment in a brew.

They all have their place but after many years of brewing (and drinking) I have only scratched the surface of what is possible,

Enjoy.

Hi Stib, Welcome to the forum I found everyone so helpful when I was starting out. I'm in Norwich so good to have someone else from Norfolk on, there are only a few of us on here! If you want any help or advice let me know, or ask the forum. I can give you the details of a local homebrew club that meets up which is great. When you're ready to step up to all grain, I have a good starter picnic cooler mash tun for sale (with sparge arm) which you'll need. Will be cheap as I need rid of it! Cheers.
