Ive been contemplating either a grainfather or building a lil update to my gear.
Anyone any experience and building a HERMS vessel and would it work with an Inkbird 308? Just like the idea of recirculating and greater control of mash temps and mashout.
I spoke with the ink bird guys and suggested they should make a 3 vessel controller.

I built a little kettle HERMS a few years ago, I agree with Bigcol, you really want a PID for control to avoid overshooting temperature.

I've built a HERMS and used a peco controller which did the trick. I had my brew kettle filled with sparge water and placed my wort chiller in there. The sparge water kept the recirculating wort -1°c cooler than the temp I wanted it to be. This allowed me to mash, and when it came time to sparge I'd increase the kettle temp so this acted like a mashout as well.

Perhaps build the heat exchanger and test it out with the inkbird controller with water.. if you manage to control the output temperature of the hex within 1c of target ok i would suggest that you can use it..

Now that throws me into limbo, torn what to do. I am hanging on to see what goods SS Brewtech release but I do fancy a e herms system as getting a new kitchen too and the wide will ban me from the cooker top

having a little look now, thx

This is my HERMS set up and it works amazingly well, we’ll beyond what I was expecting.
