Investigating a cheap source for a pump for my brewery. Have taken a combi boiler apart, and extracted the pump, hoped it would be magnetically coupled, but you can't have everything for nothing, :) Thing is I'm not sure if I'm going in the right direction with this one :?
Ignore all the the crap in the picture the silver and black thing is the pump  .

Looked a bit complex, could find the outlet ok but the inlet looked a bit hidden, so drastic action was called for.

Still looked a bit confusing to me, and I'm driving

Well this is exactly what I was looking for. I plan to put on a sheet cover with an inlet of some type in the centre, held down by replacing the bolt with longer ones. (Mrs. Springer likes things like this on her work surfaces. Not to mention the grinding disc.

Well what's the verdict is it worth pursuing?

By the way It seems that there are lots of viewers out there, but not many posters, "come on down" , join in, say something.

I know what you're thinking, what about the dish washer :? Well I don't know either, but I picked one up last week, :D , and was wondering if the pump would be useful, as an alternative to the combi one, bet its much simpler, but is it usable, anyone been here before?

if you don't mind spending £69 the rg550 at this price (brand spanking new) is an absolute bargain. It needs a balance loop, which is easy to make, and comes with stainless head, drain port, mag drive etc

I have a totton Gp 20/12 and a rg550, and to be fair, with the balance loop, the RG now does the hard work in my setup.

The RG550 is not suitable as a HERMS pump, its total overkill . . . even with a balance loop . . . I know I have one :) . . . and am looking to reuse it as a cask/keg washer . . . . Also it is not mag coupled . . It's direct drive . . . I know I've taken mine apart . . . don't run it dry or you will crack the carbon seal at the back of the impeller . . . want to know why I had to take mine apart? . . . Still parts are available from Hallamshire Cellar Supplies in Huddersfield.

As a general purpose workhorse shifting large volumes of liquid quickly they are difficult to beat . . . Phil used several in the old 2.5 and 5BBL Wibblers Brewery . . . The pumps in the 20BBL plant are just a little bit bigger

:D I think lots of people like to see what's going on but they don't necessarily use pumps ;)

Have to agree. Even if you do tame them they're not too happy about it

It could be. For me personally it would be important to find out if all the parts in the pump are food grade, I would imagine you can source this info. It could be o.k for a HERMS pump, but I wouldn't be too keen using it post boil. Mag coupled pumps have very few moving parts which come into contact with the wort post boil, therefore they are easy to sanitise. Direct drive pumps have shafts, seals etc in the wort flow which can make sanitising difficult.
