Though it may not be to some peoples interest...money could be better spent on this and that...etc..etc.... I'd like to give a shout out to the Vulcan To The Sky appeal. They're looking to raise £400,000 by xmas and are a good way there but still need more. If this target isn't reached she may never fly again which would be a real shame, having said that she probably only has 1 year left anyway, due to the stupid life the airframes been given
I'm a huge fan of this aircraft, always brings a tear, and there is nothing in the sky like her, and almost certainly the last greatest flying achievement the English will ever make...even the Americans copied the design...just like they're doing with the harrier :nono:

This has to be one of my fav clips of XH558....good god almighty...can you imagine it    ...there's only one aircraft that can instill fear just by the sounds of it's engines alone

Donate if you can by whatever means and maybe we'll see her next year

I've donated twice already....
Where I lived in the 50-60's it was at the end of the turning circle for Finningley. Many the times this GREAT airplane has flown over my house...the sight and the sound is something that I will never forget, ( the sound was captured brilliantly on that little video.)
You couldn't help but cheer wildly, punching the air as it past. Old men and boys Mothers and wives all stopped to watch it. It was like some alien space ship, there was nothing like it in the skies of the WORLD.
This country could and did compete with the rest of the World in those days, I could cry when I think how we have been reduced to being a country of warehouses....

We have XM655 about 1.5 miles from us at Wellesbourne Mountford.....Here and for my 60 my swmbo got me a visit and a sit in the cockpit.

She'll never fly again :( but we where there when the flypast was on...

HERE

They have a few quid of my money too.

The guy on the video has it down pat, "woohoo hoo hoooo, awesome" : D

I swear that the first time I heard that plane I had to go through puberty all over again ;) :)

great piece of engineering

its just a shame its designed for mass murder

Fair doos Russ, I did say it wouldn't be for everyone in the initial post. Most revolutionary jumps in technology usually come about from military based research, or funding thereof, and the Vulcan was really only ever used to deter.

Apart from that one little jaunt to the south atlantic ;) mind you we had to get it out of mothballs for that job

It was parked next to a couple of Green Goddesses.
Good job we don't throw owt away in this country.

Saw they took the ejection seats out today....talk about red tape...cause they're fitted they have to be tested....but the bloody DHL plane that flies over RIAT every year doesn't have the damn things

aah but if they had....they would have to be tested................. :D

I have a recollection of one of the Vulcan incidents taking an Air Commodore with it, from memory ejection seats were fitted to all the crew positions following that, previously only the front seats had ejection, the rest of the crew had to scramble for any exit :(
