My first attempt at all grain happened christmas eve, I bought the homebrewcompany irish stout, went BIAB with this one.

I took a reading of this a couple of das ago and its stuck at 1.020, OG was around 1.050 , instructions stated should have been 1.045, I gave it a gentle stir to see if it would get it going again, but nothing has changed... im not really sure what to do. I did try the sample, it still tasted slightly sweet, so there must be some fermentables left in there somewhere.

I was thinking of sticking it in my fermenting fridge and setting the temp to 21 to see if that gets it going, but other than that, I am at a loss with this one. I dont really want to bottle it at the moment and risk them exploding.

Does anyone have any ideas? would it be worth me throwing in some more yeast, I have had this problem before, but stiring it got it going again, this time it has not worked :wha:

Any help would be great, I should have written down what yeast I used, it was the one that came with the kit, a safale yeast, I think it wasd the one in the red packet from memory. I am wondering whether the yeast cant ferment out anyone, or another thing I am thinking is that I lost control of my temps a couple of times on the day... could this have extracted something thats sweet but not fermentable?

Really not too sure what to do next, would love the help of some of you more experianced brewers,

Cheers :thumb:

I would stick it in your fridge for a couple of weeks. If it hasn't changed at least it will have cleared and you can bottle with confidence that it won't explode.

take a gravity reading now, give it another gentle stir. Put the vessel where the temperature is a steady 21c and leave for 2 days. then take another reading.
time and warmth will in most cases get the fermentation to work.
1.020 is far too high for bottling.

Cheers for the info, took another reading , still 1.020, tastes fantastic though! Cleaning up the fermentation fridge as its not been used for a while. Will stick it in that for a few days to see if it helps. If not I may give up on the bottling idea and stick it in a cornie
