Hi folks

Really sorry that my first post is a request for help! I'm about to finish the boil on my first brew and have found that the tap on my FV is leaking! I guess I've got a couple of options - can folks help?

1) ferment in the kettle (a 12L steel stockpot with a loose-fitting lid)
2) leave the wort overnight and get to a shop tomorrow to buy a replacement tap or FV
3) borrow a tap / FV of someone!

Its a small-ish kit so only needs to be 10-12ish litres.

Can anyone advise on whether options 1 or 2 are ok? Or can anyone lend me an FV or tap? I'm in Blackheath.

Thanks in advance!

Larry

Panic over, tap seems to have miraculously fixed itself so the wort's in the fermenter! I'll keep an eye on it but hopefully I'll soon be drinking my first brew! :)

Glad you fixed it ...... or fixed itself. I was gonna say SE London = Wilkos in Penge. ;)

You say it's stopped leaking but if it starts again, depending on where the leak is and how bad it is you could try some vaseline to plug it. Worked well on my coopers FV when it was dripping a bit

Cheers chaps. Vaseline - would never have thought of that! I'm keeping an eye on it and its still holding so good news! Maybe the seals just needed to bed in a bit...? Have bought a spare tap for next time in case it happens again.

Bubbling away nicely at the mo, somewhere between 18 & 20 deg. Busy building up a collection of (currently full!) bottles for bottling time! :)
