You may have gathered (or not) i haven't been around for a few weeks, well my computer at work died well got severely infected. Anyway even though I am up and running I am going to buy a new laptop and PC for the business.

I am looking at one of theseLenovo G770

Any thoughts?

For my main PC I want an i7 processor 16 gb ram any thoughts. I was thinking of going to pcspecialist.co.uk as they seem to be the best on price for a custom built pc.

I use my computers mainly for just the usual office work but also some design work on Photoshop. I often have to design large pieces of artwork montages etc. The last was 5 metres x 2 metres so the working files get very large.

I know some will say I should get a mac but I don't want to go with the crowd always been a pc and they are too expensive.

So thoughts anyone.

I'm more than happy to build one for you :D

I tend to use Overclockers UK for my bits . . . but their top end (gaming) rigs are very nice. If you want the comfort of a guarantee then it is difficult to beat PC Specialist / Overclockers.

Don't forget if you go with 16GB or RAM you will need a 64Bit OS/Apps to take advantage of it.

As far as Video cards are concerned any reasonably modern card will easily handle the demands that 2D photo shop graphics throws at it. I use a 5450 at home (from a 4850 before) . . . of course if you are looking at playing games then you need to look at something like a 6980 or even a 7970

16gb is pretty much overkill at the moment imo...I got a computer from pcspecialist and it's not bad, although I do still need to add some extra cooling because it fricken overheats.

As you're not doing anything very excessive with it just make sure you get a half decent graphics card for photoshop. DVD burner is pretty much essential imo, and you will find your working life much easier with a top end hard drive, but that's about it...

Don't get ripped on software, though. I use OpenOffice, AVG, Firefox etc - theres more than enough good free software to warrant not being mugged into paying £50 for a rubbish antivirus!

Just trying to be future proof with the RAM. Having said that some of the files I work or in PS can be 3-4 gb.

Build it yourself its easy :thumb: I use Scan.co.uk for most of my parts as I get free delivery. In the past I have found Overclockers a little annoying as they sometimes randomly up the price and ring you asking for more money.

If your looking to future proof invest in a SSD hardrive you will see improvements straight away and it is worth looking at third party coolers which should allow you to get more speed out of your processor a decent case goes a long way as well.

If your just photoshopping I might forgo the graphics card and look into AMD/Atis new chips that combine the processor and graphics together they are more than you need and you always have the possiblilty to upgrade if you need to.

Grays if you need help building it etc I can help.
Scan is good or microdirect but be warned hard drive prices are silly just now.

Wondered where you were G. good luck with the technology.
Fortunately I don't do big files, so manage with something driven by steam running Ubuntu, very pleased, works a treat for normal applications and free. :D

The one I have got may as well be steam driven. It made me realise how much we rely on them. Mind you I got shed loads of work done just couldn't invoice any of it out.
