Hello :)

I'm going to do a wine kit tonight not done a wine before but thought it a go got a cheap kit from Wilco's but have a silly/question which is?

I've picked up Tesco "ashmountain" bottled water" do I still need to boil this or can I just use it straight off without boiling - I thought that it might make the wine better if I bought bottled to start with

thanks in advance

Ken

No need to boil the water it will be fine as it is.
I always use tap water and cannot recall reading a thread saying bottled water wine tastes better than the same made with tap water.
Some members prefer to top up with cooled boiled water others just use tap water, I guess it's down to personal preferenc.

Bottled water, like tap water, is variable. 'Aqua Pura' has a pH of 6.1 (acidic), whereas 'Saka' is 8.2 (alkaline), for example, as stated on the labels. A pH of 7.0 is neutral, and kits are formulated for that. The Wilco kits require lots of water in proportion to the concentrate so it has a big effect. In the examples given, the first would make the wine more acidic and the second more bland. Personally, I would go for more acidic as the Wilco kits are rather bland, but to be frank, don't get your hopes up. These kits contain so little grape juice concentrate.

photoken if it is the black cherry do not top up on day two as per instructions leave it until day four when the vigorous fermentation has died down, if you follow the instructions it will come out of the airlock.

Thanks for the advice Chippy_Tea and Tony started the kit last night as per Wilco's instructions - bubbling away today ok every 8-10 secs so not the quickest but ok will top up on saturday to 4Ltrs not 4.5ltrs just so can get a lill bit more flavour out of the kit I think

But thanks again

Ken
