Hi all, a (sort of) newbie here!

My name's Tom, and I'm from near abergavenny / big pit mining museum.

I was cleaning out the garage the other day and re-discovered my home brew bits and pieces which I first played around with when I was 18 or so  I'm 22 now.

My first attempts at home brewing failed a bit because I think I didn't regulate the temperature enough, and I ended up with a tea-like substance that we endured, but it didn't really have an alcoholic content... so a lose-lose situation!

So today I'm setting about sterilising my fermenting bin and all the bits and bobs that go with it (thermometer, airlocks, taps etc), and i bought a tin of gunge (wort i think is the proper name :D ) and some 'brewkit enhancer'. The wort i've got is called 'Geordie lager'.

I'm making a little brewing cupboard tomorrow, insulated on the inside with a sleeping bag. for temperature control I'm thinking of using either one or two filament bulbs at a safe distance from anything flammable, or a heated blanket wrapped around the vessel. what would you guys & girls think?

I won a remote sensor electronic thermostat off ebay for £4.99 delievered which i'm very pleased with :) I like the fact that its remote controlled... just because I'm quite a gadgetty person :D

Another quick question: which would you consider best for sterilising the equipment: campden tablets, supermarket sterilising tablets or milton? I've got them all here in the house. I don't want to use bleach as i think that'd be a bit silly.

Also, a big thanks to the people who keep this forum up and running

Tom
